Strategic AI adoption must be ethical, says Nadir Godrej at WEF Davos

Nadir Godrej, Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group, emphasized the strategic importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) while underscoring the necessity of ethical governance. Speaking at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, he highlighted AI’s transformative potential across sectors, particularly in agriculture, climate change mitigation, and productivity enhancement.

Godrej detailed AI’s applications in agriculture, noting its role in early detection of disease and pest outbreaks through satellite imagery analysis. AI-driven insights can empower farmers with real-time data, enabling proactive interventions to mitigate risks. Additionally, AI can optimize soil and crop health assessments, ensuring precise nutrient and fertilizer application to enhance yield efficiency and sustainability. Addressing concerns regarding AI’s impact on employment, Godrej drew parallels with past technological shifts that initially disrupted industries but eventually created more opportunities. While optimistic about AI’s contributions to economic growth, he stressed the need for regulatory frameworks to prevent misuse and ensure ethical deployment. In Guwahati, a key agricultural trade hub, AI’s integration is anticipated to enhance supply chain efficiencies and market predictability. Industry stakeholders expect AI-driven tools to improve productivity, minimize wastage, and stabilize pricing, reinforcing the region’s agribusiness competitiveness
