Assamese actress Sumi Borah and her husband, Tarkik Borah, surrendered to the Assam Police on Thursday in connection with a massive Rs 2,200 crore online trading scam. The couple turned themselves in to the Special Task Force (STF) in Dibrugarh after being on the run since the scam was exposed last week.
Assam Police DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh confirmed the arrest on social media, stating, “The game is up for them. Compliments to the Team STF.”Sumi Borah had posted a video the night before, claiming she was hiding due to false accusations and negative publicity. She denied fleeing and announced her intention to cooperate with authorities.
The scam’s mastermind, Bishal Phukan, used Borah’s connections in the Assamese film industry to lure investors into his fraudulent scheme. Borah, married in a high-profile wedding in 2023, played a key role in attracting clients. Following Phukan’s arrest, Borah’s involvement came under scrutiny, leading to police raids at her Guwahati apartment.
