Suwori Field at Boko hosted the 113th Annual Suwori Festival

Suwori Field in Boko, Kamrup district, hosted the 113th Annual Suwori festival, which is steeped in tradition. To enjoy the celebration, hundreds of people traveled from different areas. The seventh day of the Rongali Bihu Festival is dedicated to celebrating the annual event. Several indigenous cultures and ethnic groupings, including the Rabha, Bodo, Garo, Gorkha, and Koch Rajbongshi, as well as members of other castes and clans, call Boko, an enchanted paradise in the southern Kamrup district, home.

The goal of “Suwori” is to highlight and spread awareness of the rich tapestry of this varied fabric, each of which has a unique cultural past. During this event, the primary attractions include “Hana Ghora,” “Paro Bah,” and amazing traditional sports. Regarding the “Hana Ghora,” festival organizer Gauranga Choudhary stated, “God Siva encountered the Hanas (Garo) people in this region while traveling with his wife’s corpse. Goddesses Kali also arrived in the region on horseback alongside the god Siva.

Hanas created a bamboo horse, known as the Hana Ghora dance, which is performed by Rabha-Kachari. The dance involves a padal and drum, and involves prayers to the goddesses and offerings. Paro Bah, Hana Ghora’s younger sister, is made from bamboo and covered in red, white, and green cloth. Traditional sports like tug of war, bamboo climbing, horse races, and elephant races are also performed.
