SWITCH Mobility launches electric buses for India and Europe, set to transform urban mobility

SWITCH Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, unveiled its latest electric buses, the SWITCH EiV12 and SWITCH E1, aimed at revolutionizing urban mobility across India, Europe, and the GCC. The low-floor electric city bus, EiV12, tailored for India, was launched by ShriNitinGadkari, India’s Minister for Road Transport and Highways, marking a milestone for sustainable public transport. Designed for city commutes, the EiV12 boasts over 400 kWh of scalable battery capacity and features a spacious interior for 39 passengers.

On the same occasion, the SWITCH E1, crafted for the European market, was virtually unveiled. Both buses share a common electric vehicle (EV) architecture, offering enhanced performance, safety, and passenger comfort. “These buses are a tribute to the PM’s Make in India vision,” said Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group, emphasizing the alignment with India’s green infrastructure goals.

The SWITCH EiV12 also introduces features like easy wheelchair access, CCTV surveillance for women’s safety, and a large panoramic glass area for improved visibility. With over 1,800 orders already placed, the EiV12 is set to transform the Indian market, projected to see a 21% annual growth in electric city buses by 2030. In Guwahati, the introduction of these electric buses presents an opportunity to reduce the city’s carbon footprint while addressing its growing transportation needs. With rising concerns over air pollution and congestion, the adoption of electric buses like the SWITCH EiV12 could help Guwahati take a significant step toward cleaner, more efficient public transport solutions.
