Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Tata Electronics’ groundbreaking projects today – a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, and a Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Jagiroad, Assam. These ventures, backed by an investment totaling a staggering ₹1.18 trillion from Tata Electronics, promise to galvanize India’s tech landscape, generating nearly 50,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Distinguished dignitaries including Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, and Chief Ministers Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam graced the occasion. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Jal Shakti, contributed virtually to the event.N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd., lauded PM Modi’s vision for propelling India as a semiconductor destination. Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Electronics, emphasized the historic significance of the event in realizing ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’.
The Dholera facility, in collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan, heralds India’s maiden AI-enabled semiconductor fab. Situated near Ahmedabad, it boasts an investment of ₹91,000 crores and is expected to create over 20,000 skilled jobs. Catering to diverse sectors including automotive, computing, wireless communication, and artificial intelligence, this fab will manufacture state-of-the-art chips.Meanwhile, the Jagiroad OSAT facility, with an investment of ₹27,000 crores, strategically positioned near Guwahati, is anticipated to create over 27,000 jobs. Focused on critical semiconductor assembly and test technologies, it will play a pivotal role in key applications spanning automotive, communications, computing and AI.
