Due to complaints from local residents regarding environmental damage and violations of government regulations, the JBI Brick Industry in Neuldoba, which is part of the Chamaria Revenue Circle, has come under fire and close inspection. Although it was recently temporarily closed during the rainy season, brick-making operations have returned and caused apprehension among the local population.The JBI Brick Industry is accused of breaking the Assam Pollution Control Board’s (PCBA) regulation for environmentally friendly brick-making practices by continuing to operate without technologies like vertical shaft kilns or zigzag kilns.
In addition, the corporation is accused of harming the local aquatic habitat and fauna, as well as blocking the Mora Kolohi River. It also violates all significant environmental restrictions by operating in locations that are forbidden within 500 meters of bridges, schools, and bodies of water. The Revenue Circle Officer at Chamaria, Nandan Nilotpal Bhagawati, recommended the villagers to write directly to the Deputy Commissioner at the Amingaon office about such cases of non-compliance, while the authorities of Bamunigaon, PCBA, continue to dismiss such issues.
The importance of adopting sustainable technologies and adhering to environmental regulations was emphasized at a PCBA awareness meeting in August 2024. However, the persistent disregard for environmental regulations by the JBI Brick Industry has infuriated the local population, who are calling for prompt administrative action to restore their environmental and public health standards.
