The sacred relics of Lord Buddha have arrived in Vietnam, marking the beginning of a significant spiritual event in celebration of UN Vesak Day. The relics, originally enshrined in a vihara in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, were transported aboard a special Indian Air Force aircraft and will be on public display from May 2 to May 21, 2025. The grand arrival saw a warm reception, with Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, leading the Indian delegation. Alongside him was Shri Kandula Durgesh, Minister for Tourism, Culture & Cinematography of Andhra Pradesh, and several other officials.

Minister Rijiju took to social media, reflecting on the solemnity of the occasion, sharing, “Humbled to lead the delegation carrying the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha to Vietnam, an experience that touches the soul.” He was joined by revered monks and officials as they embarked on this sacred journey of peace and harmony.

The relics will be showcased across multiple locations in Vietnam, beginning with Han Tam Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City, followed by Ba Den Mountain, Quan Su Pagoda, and concluding at Tam Chuc Pagoda in Ha Nam Province. Millions of Buddhist devotees are expected to attend these ceremonies, offering prayers and paying their respects.
