An important milestone for the Assamese film industry has been reached with the acceptance of three Assamese films into the renowned Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India. At the festival, Assamese cinema will be represented by “Juiphool” by Jadumoni Dutta, “Rador Pakhi” by Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, and “Swargarath” by Rajesh Bhuyan. Out of 384 entries from all around India, 25 feature films were chosen by the Indian Panorama jury, which was chaired by filmmaker Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi. “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,” a Hindi film directed by Randeep Hooda, will initiate the feature film block.
The showcase concludes with 20 non-feature films selected from 262 applications. Harsh Sangani’s Ladakhi film “Ghar Jaisa Kuch” will debut in the non-feature category. The highly regarded movie “12th Fail” by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and the ambitious 3D feature “Kalki 2898 AD” are among the noteworthy selections. India’s varied cinematic terrain is reflected in the twelve languages spoken in the feature films. Twelve jurors representing different facets of Indian cinema participated in the selection process for feature films and six for non-feature films. Promoting films that exhibit artistic, thematic, and aesthetic brilliance is the festival’s main goal.
The National Film Development Corporation and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the Goa government, are organizing IFFI 2024, which will take place in Panaji, Goa, from November 20 to 28. Since its founding in 1978, the Indian Panorama has promoted Indian cinema internationally by showing a selection of films at foreign festivals and cultural exchange initiatives.
