In order to properly empower the farming community, Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Dibrugarh arranged a 5-day vocational skill training on commercial cultivation at a time when the Assamese government is placing a significant emphasis on the farming community’s revenue-generating activities, such as mushroom cultivation, through skill development training. The Assam Agricultural University Jorhat’s Director of Extension Education and the ATARI Zone VI Guwahati Office (ICAR) provided the program with the necessary support.
In addition to discussing the growing future demand for mushroom produce and various mushroom products for both economic benefit and effectively managing the threat of global malnutrition, Dr. Hemchandra Saikia, Senior Scientist and Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh, emphasized the nutritional and health benefits of eating mushrooms and, consequently, the importance of mushroom cultivation.
Dr. Sanghamitra Sarma, the course director, successfully led the entire program. The training was conducted by Dr. Sanghamitra Sarma, Dr. Sharmistha Borgohain, Dr. Babita Tamuli, Shantanu Paul, KB Chetry, and Mr. Anirudha Kunwar, a successful mushroom entrepreneur, together with experts in plant protection and resources from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh and other sectors. Twenty men and women in total successfully completed the training program, and at its conclusion, diplomas were given to each participant.
