Actor Vikrant Massey, known for his work in films like 12th Fail, Haseen Dillruba, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, has earned a loyal fan base. The actor, who is now seen in the Netflix film Sector 36, recently shared his opinion about the Justice Hema Committee report. He also said that heinous crimes like rape should get the worst punishment.
In a conversation with The Hindu, when Vikranth was asked about the Justice Hema Committee report that highlighted exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry, he said that he would not limit the lack of safety of women at the workplace to just film sets. “I think I would not limit it to just film sets. Without maligning what happened in the Malayalam film industry down south, without maligning the Hema Committee… but I think I would not limit it to just what happened there. There are many important issues that need to be looked at,” he said.
He said, “As a man, I feel ashamed when I say that I am more secure than the opposite sex. Unfortunately, they are not as secure as I am and I think it’s time for all of us to collectively come together and first look at the rot within ourselves because change starts with you.”
Vikrant spoke about serious crimes like rape and said that “depending on the case, the death penalty can be given. In the case of minors, it should definitely be there.” He also highlighted the importance of introspection, urging individuals to examine their role in perpetuating social issues. “But when I say this, a lot of us need to look at the rot within ourselves,” he said.
He said, “In the case of minors, I think the death penalty should be given and it should be implemented swiftly.” However, he also acknowledged the importance of considering multiple viewpoints, including human rights advocates.
